The Andrew McMorris Foundation is excited to announce its first event of 2022, “Andrew’s Top Gun Run.” This 5k/Fun Run, in collaboration with Suffolk County Council of Boy Scouts of America, will take place on March 26, 2022. It was announced at a press conference at the event site this week.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation has picked a fitting location for a 5K run planned in honor of the late boy scout: the former Grumman runway at EPCAL in Calverton.

His parents, John and Alisa and sister Arianna, announced on Monday the run, which is planned for Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Grumman Memorial Park.

When Andrew McMorris was younger, his family would ride bikes together at the Enterprise Park in Calverton. Andrew, who dreamed of becoming a pilot, “pretended when he biked down the old runways that he was actually taking off in an airplane,” his father said.

Now, one of those runways will host a 5K run in honor of the late Wading River Boy Scout, who died in 2018 after he and his troop were struck by a drunk driver while hiking in Manorville.

From the moment they lost their beloved boy, the McMorris family has seen their lives shattered, blanketed by grief that the joy of the holiday season just intensifies. "This holiday I will be putting up Andrew's stocking but it will have no one to open it — and that kind of pain I wouldn't wish on anyone," Alisa said.

Legislation tied to the recently signed infrastructure law will mandate the use of new car technology that could stop drunk driving. NBC News’ Kerry Sanders reports on how the tech works and talks to some of those pushing for change.

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day and Andrew’s birthday, the Andrew McMorris Foundation has released “Cut Short,” its latest Public Service Announcement to help prevent drunk driving. This PSA was directed by David Lopez and produced by David Lopez, the Andrew McMorris Foundation, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation is currently lobbying Congress to pass the Reduce Impaired Driving for Everyone Act of 2019 (RIDE Act - S. 2604 of 2019). The federal legislation calls for the Department of Transportation to issue a rulemaking to equip all new cars with advanced alcohol detection technology that would passively detect whether the driver is drunk. This has the potential to eliminate drunk driving in America.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation Scholarship was created to honor the memory of a very special twelve-year-old boy who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while hiking with his Boy Scout troop in the fall of 2018.
