There were three DWI arrests along Montauk Highway Wednesday within a span of just two hours, Southampton police say.

They say the arrests happened from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and that one of the drivers had a 15-year-old child in the car.

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman says drinking and driving with not be tolerated on the East End.

"We are going to be out there doing our job, we expect our citizens to also do their job and be responsible," Schneiderman says.

Police will be conducting DWI checkpoints and increase patrols across Long Island for the upcoming holiday weekend.

A family who knows the pain of drinking and driving stood alongside officials as they made their announcement about patrols on Wednesday.

Alisa McMorris lost her 12-year-old son to a drunk driver in Manorville in 2018.

"Andrew was taken from this Earth too soon, and this is how we move forward, by trying to prevent someone else from going through something so horrible," McMorris says.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the number of drunk driving accidents doubles in the summer months.

Officials say anyone planning to go out for the Fourth of July weekend should have a plan of how to get home safely.
